The Diocesan Bishop of Remo Diocese (Anglican Communion), The Most Rev’d Dr. Olusina Fape, delivered a sermon at the 37th Memorial and Patronal Service held in honor of Chief Obafemi Awolowo at the Obafemi Awolowo Memorial Anglican Church, Ikenne – Remo. In his sermon, he highlighted Chief Awolowo’s enduring legacy in Nigerian politics, noting that even after 37 years since his passing, Awolowo’s name continues to be synonymous with good governance and progressive ideals.
The service was attended by several dignitaries, including former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; former deputy Governor of Ogun State, Alhaji Adegbenga Sefiu Kaka; Senator Anthony Adefuye; and other notable personalities.
The Bishop emphasized the importance of living a life of impact and legacy, citing Chief Awolowo as a prime example. He praised Awolowo’s commitment to humanity and his achievements in various spheres of life, including politics, industry, agriculture, housing, sports, education, media, and human capacity building. He also noted that Awolowo’s philosophy of truth, justice, fairness, and equity continues to resonate in Nigeria today.
In conclusion, the Bishop expressed gratitude to God for the gift of Chief Obafemi Awolowo to Nigeria, describing him as a man who set the standard for godly and righteous rule. He urged present-day politicians to emulate Awolowo’s virtues and strive for excellence in their service to the nation.

The only surviving child of Chief Awolowo, Ambassador Dr. Olatokunbo Awolowo Dosumu, also spoke at the event, describing her late father as a man with humble beginnings who later became a global phenomenon. She thanked all those who continue to uphold the ideals of her late father, noting that while some of Awolowo’s political children have fallen by the wayside, the vast majority still stand strong.
