ACTDA begins supervising drainage waste clearing in Anambra

The management of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has commenced the supervision of the clearing of waste from drainage systems in Awka, the state capital of Anambra State.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of ACTDA, Hon. Ossy Onuko, who arrived at the popular Zik Avenue with members of his entourage, commenced the monitoring and supervision of works from the Igwebuike, Parker junction, Amenyi, Ogbankwa, Nigeria Post office axis through the motor spare part market and the Eke-Awka roundabout, all in the Awka South Local Government Area of the State.

After flagging off the exercise, the ACTDA boss said he would monitor the one-week waste evacuation and drainage cleaning across the Awka metropolis.

He noted that under his watch, Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a smart, livable, and prosperous state in Nigeria will be achieved.

Onunkwo noted that he will still visit other parts of the Awka area involved to ensure that the exercise goes smoothly.

Some residents who spoke to our correspondent about the development expressed happiness with the present administration’s initiative towards ensuring a clean and healthy environment in the capital city.

Environmental health officers, major stakeholders, and traders in the areas were present at the sanitation exercise.

Some traders who sell along the axis were also seen assisting the ACTDA officials to ensure a quarrel-free exercise.

The Nigerian Tribune reported that during the exercise, excavators were seen evacuating waste from drainages, dumping it, and loading it in tippers to be dumped at sites provided by the state government.

Workers and residents of the areas were also seen clearing and helping to ensure that the waste, which has become an eyesore, was removed for health sake.
