Army charges troops to end insurgency

Nigerian Army reaffirms its commitment to ending insurgency and ensuring peace in the North-East, recognizing the trust placed in them by host communities and stakeholders.

Speaking at Maimalari cantonment in Maiduguri on Monday, while commemorating 161st anniversary of Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2024, with the theme “Transforming the Nigerian Army: Imperative for Combating Contemporary Security Challenges Within a Joint Environment”, the Acting Officer Commanding, Breg.-Gen. Abubakar Haruna, charged the troops of Operation Hadin Kai North-East to end the insurgency by taking the fight to insurgents’ strongholds.

According to him, the Nigerian Army has transformed from an 18-man force in 1863 to a formidable combat force today and encouraged the troops to keep up the good work and ensure peace is restored in the North-East.

He assured the widows and families of fallen heroes that their loved ones will never be forgotten, recognising their efforts in the ongoing fight against insurgency.

He commended officers and soldiers for their bravery and dedication, charging them to continue the fight against insurgency.

Breg.-Gen. Haruna paid tribute to fallen heroes who have paid the ultimate price in defense of the nation, and their memories are honored.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and leadership and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, for their visionary leadership.
