Army to get mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles – COAS Lagbaja

The Nigerian Army will in a couple of weeks be provided with some mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles.

Addressing troops during a familiarisation tour to the 23 Brigade in Gibson Jalo Cantonment, Yola in Adamawa State, the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja said, “the expected delivery was part of the agenda to reposition the army.”

He said the current government, in its effort to reposition the Army, is doing a lot, stressing that in the next few weeks, mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles to enhance the conduct of its operations nationwide will arrive..

The COAS revealed that the Army is working towards how those assets can quickly be on the ground before July 2024, saying that the Nigerian Army Aviation would soon come on stream.

According to Lagbaja, much has recently been done to curb insecurity in hitherto troubled subregions of South-South, South-East and North-Central, pointing out that the remaining most troublesome challenges still noticed in the North-West and part of North-East are being aggressively addressed.

He said he foresees in the future the security situation across Nigeria will be improved tremendously, explaining that with the support they are getting from Mr President, putting everything together will be possible.

He told the troops directly that he chose to visit them for a first-hand experience of how they live and how they conduct their operations, saying that their bosses had briefed him of their challenges including living outside the cantonment in rented houses, irregular power supply to the cantonment, and poor road network.

He urged them to continue to be up and doing, promising that the challenges would be addressed.
