Army Urges Journalists to Highlight Military Achievements Over Terrorist Activities

Brigadier-General Muftau Ibrahim urged journalists to focus on highlighting the significant achievements of the Nigerian military
He emphasized the need to balance media coverage by spotlighting the daily triumphs of the military in combating insurgency and banditry

Brigadier-General Muftau Ibrahim, commander of the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, called on journalists to avoid giving undue attention to bandits and insurgents and instead spotlight the significant achievements of the Nigerian military.
He made this plea during Thursday’s visit by the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to Cross River State.
General Ibrahim underscored that the military has made substantial progress in combating insurgency and banditry nationwide, achievements often overshadowed by media coverage of sporadic successes by criminal elements.
“The media often highlights isolated victories of criminal elements, eclipsing the daily triumphs of the Nigerian military. Without adequate coverage of the military’s successes, the public remains uninformed, leading to misinformation,” Ibrahim emphasized.

He emphasized the importance of showcasing the military’s efforts to ensure peace and security throughout Nigeria.
While acknowledging a positive relationship with traditional media, Ibrahim expressed concerns about social media, where individuals frequently make anonymous and provocative statements.
