Automation of ship registry, gender inclusion to receive attention – NIMASA DG

The Director General/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dayo Mobereola, has disclosed that priority attention would be given to the automated registration of Ships in the agency.“His dedication to capacity building, infrastructure development, and environmental protection will most definitely position Nigeria as a key player in the global maritime community.

“As we move forward together, we are confident that under the leadership of Dr Adedayo Mobereola, NIMASA will continue to drive innovation, pursue collaboration with stakeholders, and engender positive progress in our industry as a whole.

“We expect the DG to be fully cognisant of the impact of technological developments in the marine and blue economy on the content and form of policies to be developed. We look forward to working together with the DG to address the challenges ahead and to seize the opportunities that lies before us,” Iheanacho stated.

Among those who made interventions at the forum include, Former DG, NIMASA, Raymond Omotseye, who said that NIMASA must return to it’s core mandates. also advocated review of the agency’s organogram, salary review, process audit, and that ship owners should be able to register their ships from their offices, certification of seafarers to avoid quacks, and creation of enabling environment for a national carrier.

Mama Dockworkers, Princess Vicky Haarstrup, in her views said that the welfare of the dockworkers is critical and important, adding that there is need to train all the dockworkers. She stated that even though there is training for the workers such training should be scaled up.
