A 75-year-old barber, Pa Nwankwo Nweke, has been arrested for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl in Awka, Anambra.
The suspect, who confessed to the crime, claimed he was tempted and pleaded for mercy.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, assured the victim of justice and warned that such crimes will not be tolerated.
The victim’s parents, Mr and Mrs John Ugwuanyi, reported that their daughter went missing while running an errand and was later found to have been taken into the suspect’s house.
The suspect had promised her mango and told her not to answer her name.
When the girl finally returned home, she revealed what had happened, and her parents involved security operatives and took her to the hospital.
