Bauchi govt to immunise, vaccinate 11,000 children against killer diseases

Not fewer than 11,000 children are to be vaccinated against all child killer diseases in 13 LGAs of Bauchi State with the ero doses, where mothers are either not taking their children for routine immunisation or not completing it.

The disclosure was made on Thursday by the Executive Chairman of Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BASPHCDA), Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, during the flag-off of the 2024 African Vaccination Week (AVW) held at the PHC, Bayan Fada, in Bauchi metropolis.

The exercise was organised by the Bauchi Field Office in collaboration with the Bauchi State Ministry of Health with the theme: ‘The Big Catch-up’: a Global Advocacy and Communication push to catch up. Restore and Strengthen Essential immunity.’

It is to be conducted between May 8 and 13, 2024, during which designated facilities across the affected LGAs will administer vaccines to the eligible children.

The BASPHCDA EC lamented that, at this age, mothers are still sceptical about taking their children to receive the full dose of vaccination and immunisation in order to keep the children healthy.

He stressed the importance of the campaign, which is to create awareness about the need to allow children to be fully immunised and vaccinated to protect them against any disease attack.

He also assured that the required vaccines are available and will be administered during the week-long activity, with a focus on the 13 LGAs with zero doses over a period of time.

The EC pointed out that only recently, the Agency approved the release of the sum of N40 million for various activities in line with the need for effective and efficient healthcare service delivery across the state.

Rilwanu Mohammed then said that there are various outreaches to close the gaps where services are not readily available due to distance to facilities and other circumstances.

He then commended all the implementation partners who are committed to the success of the various health services in the state, stressing that without them, it would have been difficult to achieve the set objectives.

The EC, however, warned health workers and other carers to ensure that the campaign was successful by applying the necessary steps learned during the training for the exercise.
