Bauchi traditional rulers commended for healthcare mobilisation, accessibility efforts

Traditional rulers in Bauchi state have been commemded for supporting effective and efficient healthcare service delivery through mobilisation of people to access health facilities.

The commendation was made by the Emir of Dass, Usman Bilyaminu Othman II in a remarks at the 2023 the review meeting of the Bauchi State Emirate Committee Council on Health (BASECCOH) which took place at the conference hall of Hazibal hotel, Bauchi on Thursday.

The Emir of Dass who is the Co-Chairman of the State TaskForce on Primary Healthcare expressed happiness with the active roles the traditional institution is playing in achieving the goals of effective and efficient healthcare service delivery.

The traditional ruler also urged them to always get involved in the issues of healthcare services by constantly visiting the health centres in order to ensure that the staff performed their duties well.

During the ceremony, the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BSPHCDA) honoured over 100 Healthcare volunteers for their roles in creating demand for healthcare services particularly in the rural areas of the State.

Beneficiaries of the award cut across best performing Local Government Areas and Chairpersons, Community leaders, Ward Development Committees, members of Community Health Influencers, Promoters, and Services (CHIPS) Agents, Mama2Mama Group, Village Community Mobilizers (VCMs) and hosts of other volunteers,

In his opening remarks, Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman Billaminu Othman said the purpose of the annual recognition and award ceremony was to recognise and honour the different categories of individuals that have made significant contributions in the areas of health awareness campaigns in the respective communities.

The Emir also charged the recipients to redouble their efforts in triggering their communities into accessing healthcare services especially in maternal and child health.

He further explained that the award also serves as a morale booster to the recipients and for others to strive to be honoured too, through commitment, dedication and perseverance in carrying out their campaigns on health promotions.

Bilyaminu Othman further said that he is optimistic that by honouring community members to take an active role in healthcare promotion and delivery, they will contribute to better health outcomes and stronger, more resilient communities.

In their separate goodwill messages, implementing partners in the State that includes representatives of Dangote Foundation, CDC AFENET and USAID funded Break-Through Action Nigeria , all congratulated the recipients and also charged them to do more as according to them, the health indices in the State is far from being okay.

Other speakers during the event included the representatives of the State Commissioner of Health, Executive Chairman of BSPHCDA and the State Coordinator of NPHCDA.

Some of the award recipients thanked the agency for recognition of their little contributions to effective and efficient healthcare service delivery across the state saying that it will spur them to do more.
