Binkola begs Oba of Benin over planned installation

Following the reaction from the Benin Monarch, HRM Ewuare II, over the planned installation of Garkuwan Hausawan Benin, Alhaji Danjuma Garba Binkola has begged the Oba for forgiveness, saying that his actions were not meant to undermine the revered Benin stool.

It would be recalled that Oba Ewuare II had on Thursday denied the approval nor consented to the planned turbaning of Binkola as Garkuwan Hausawan Benin, an event that was already scheduled to hold on Sunday, May 5th, 2024, in Benin City.

The monarch, through the Benin Traditional Council (BTC), vehemently kicked against the purported turban of Binkola in Benin.

In a two-minute viral video, Alh. Binkola was seen kneeling to beg the Oba of Benin to pardon his ignorance

Alh. Binkola was seen in a video making the rounds on social media on his knees, begging the Oba of Benin to pardon his ignorance.

Binkola, who was seen in the video speaking pidgin English, said he got the news just yesterday and that he is not aware of the magnitude of his purported installation.

He said his father, Alh. Garuba, was born and brought up in Benin, including himself, adding that, based on his long stay in Benin, he knows the traditions and customs of the Edo.

Binkola, who reiterated that he didn’t know the implications of his actions, said that the person who was to confer him the title only told him that his role was to assist him in overseeing the activities of the Hausa Community in Edo State while, in return, communicating with the palace.

He, however, begged the monarch to forgive him for his actions, noting that Edo State is good for him.
