Buhari stresses inter-agency synergy to strengthen security in border communities

The immediate past President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has emphasized the importance of synergy among government agencies operating in border communities to enhance security operations nationwide.

Speaking at his Daura residence during a visit by the Customs Area Controller of Katsina Command, Comptroller Mohammed Umar, the former President commended the inter-agency cooperation and collaboration, noting its positive impact on security agencies’ efforts to combat criminal elements, especially at the borders.

Muhammadu Buhari highlighted the collective responsibility of ensuring security, urging citizens to provide credible and reliable information to security agencies for the well-being of the country and its citizens.

During the visit, Comptroller Mohammed Umar expressed respect and updated the former President on recent customs activities under his watch. He emphasized the importance of community support in promoting compliance with customs laws and sought wise counsel from the elder statesman.

Umar informed the former President that the Nigeria Customs Service in Katsina has maintained a cordial relationship with traditional rulers, community leaders, and the business community since assuming office. He stressed the need for compliance with the law by all, including law enforcement officers who should lead by example.

Expressing gratitude for the audience and encouragement from the former President, Umar assured that the NCS in the Command would continue to benefit from his wealth of experience as a gentleman Officer and a national leader.

The Area Controller highlighted the ongoing 24-hour Customs anti-smuggling operations in the state, particularly in border areas, with effective support from sister security agencies such as the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Department of State Service, and Nigeria Immigration Service.

The visit of Customs Area Controller Comptroller Mohammed Umar to the immediate past President in his Daura residence has been praised for its significance in fostering synergy in performance. Muhammadu Buhari, during the visit, commended Umar for promoting community inclusion in preventive and anti-smuggling strategies.

Comrade Ukkasha Hamza Rahama, the immediate past Speaker of Northern Youths Assembly of Nigeria, spoke to journalists in Bauchi on Saturday, expressing the view that regular consultations with important personalities like the former President are crucial in the fight against transborder smuggling. Rahama commended Umar for visiting Muhammadu Buhari, believing it will serve as a morale booster for his operations while in charge of the Customs Command.
