Count me out of Edo APC governorship campaign council – Tony Erha

A fiery journalist and Human and Environmental Rights Activist in Edo State, Comrade Tony Erha, has distanced himself from the Publicity Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council in Edo State.

He called on the general public to disregard the news making the rounds that he had been made a member of the Publicity Committee of the APC towards the party’s campaign for the election holding in Edo on September 21, 2024.

Erha, who stated this in a press statement made available to The Nigerian Tribune on Sunday in Benin, added that he is shocked by the torrents of inquiries from his biological family members, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers over the said appointment.

He said: “I am not a member of the said APC, nor of other political parties. Also, I had not subscribed to be a member of the said APC campaign committee nor was I contacted before the inclusion and widespread dissemination of my name in it.”

Erha, a frontline pro-democracy activist and one of the National Conveners of the Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO), said that he has learned to maintain his sanity and refrains from hobnobbing with some of the “so-called leaders, who are swindlers that couldn’t carry out very simple exercises, like party nomination, yet move to force their persons on innocent voters of Edo State”.

“However, my refusal of the appointment is not a serious indictment on the person of Senator Monday Okpebholo (a.k.a. Akpakomiza), nor his governorship candidacy that purportedly informed the setting up of the campaign council.

“I had met Senator Okpebholo in person, and it is not in my character to doubt his professed commitment to be the governor of the state, while I hold him in high regard,” Erha stated.
