An Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has dissolved a 24-year-old marriage between a businessman, Yakubu Yahaya and his wife Amina Yusuf over lack of love.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the judge, Mohammed Wakili dissolved their marriage according to Islamic Law, following Yahaya’s prayer for confirmation of divorce to his wife.
Wakili ordered Amina to observe ‘Iddah’ which is a waiting period to be observed for three months before contracting another marriage.
Earlier, the petitioner had told the court he got married to the respondent under Islamic law on October 1, 2000 and was blessed with four children.
He said that the respondent gradually changed her character towards him and threatened his life.
Yakubu said he could no longer tolerate the respondent, adding that there was no more love between them.
“I have pronounced divorce to her and therefore urge the honourable court to dissolve our marriage,” he said.
