COVID-19 fund mismanagement : Reps to quiz FERMA, NDE, 39 others

No fewer than 41 federal institutions are expected to appear before the House of Representatives’ Committee on Public Accounts this week, to give an account of their stewardship on the utilisation of the multi-billion naira released for COVID-19 intervention fund between 2020 and 2022.

According to the report of the Auditor General of the Federation (oAuGF), Nigeria Air Force is to account for N3.577 billion; Nigeria Police Force is yet to account for N10 billion; Federal Fire Service got N1.455 billion; the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control – N5.009 billion; National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Person office – N1.250 billion; Federal Ministry of Aviation – N5 billion; Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development – N5 billion, while Nigeria Export Promotion Council is to account for N44 billion, respectively.

Some of the MDAs expected to appear before the Committee this week include the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy; Federal Ministry of Water Resources; Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), National Directorate of Employment (NDE), and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.

According to the Committee’s itinerary seen by Nigerian Tribune, the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and Managing Director of the Bank of Industry (BOI) are expected to appear on Friday over alleged mismanagement of N22.048 billion released to the two establishments within the period under review.

Some of the officials expected to appear before the Committee are: Chief Medical Directors of Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Meta, Lagos State; FMC Bida-Niger State; FMC Lokoja-Kogi State; FMC Abeokuta-Ogun State, FMC Katsina State; FMC Yenegoa, Bayelsa State; FMC, Asaba, Delta State; FMC Nguru, Yobe State; FMC Makurdi, Benue State; FMC Owo, Ondo State; and FMC Gusau, Zamfara State.

The University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu State; University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Edo State; Federal Teaching Hospital, Ebonyi; Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Benin City, Edo State; Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Calabar, Cross River State; Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Enugu State; Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Kware, Sokoto State; Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Abeokuta-Ogun State; Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Kaduna State; Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Maiduguri, Borno State; Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos State and Obafemi Apalowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife, Osun State.

Also expected are Jos University Teaching Hospital, Plateau State; National Obstetrics Fistula Center, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State; Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe State; University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Cross River State; University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Akwa Ibom State; University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Borno State and Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos State.
