Rt. Honourable Elvert Ekom Ayambem has faced impeachment as the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly.
The impeachment occurred on Wednesday, with 17 members of the house voting to remove him from office.
Allegations of misappropriation of funds were cited as the grounds for his impeachment.
The motion for impeachment was initiated by Honourable Effiom Ekarika, who represents Calabar South 1 Constituency, and was seconded by Honourable Omang Charles Omang, representing Bekwarra State Constituency.
Rt. Honourable Elvert Ayambem assumed the position of Speaker of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly in June 2023.
He represents Ikom 2 State Constituency in the House of Assembly.
