Officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Kebbi State Command during the week intercepted a large cache of explosives believed to be dynamites numbering 6,240 along Yauri/Jega road and handed same to the Officers of the Department of State Service (DSS) at the Nigeria Customs Service Area Command in Birnin-Kebbi.
The Controller of Customs, Iheanacho Ernest Ojike while conducting Journalist around the explosive said the dynamites were intercepted by the joint border patrol team of customs, army, police, immigration, and the DSS while on intelligence-based patrol along the Yauri/Jega road.
Ojike explained that a joint examination was conducted in the presence of relevant units of the customs, police, and the suspected items were found to contain 40 cartons and sacks totaling 6,240 pieces of cap-sensitive dynamite explosives (super power 90).
He added that two suspects, Alhaji Garba Jega and Abdullahi Aliyu were arrested and have since been charged to court and remanded.
“It was loaded on a white canter vehicle with registration number Zur 882ZY. A motorcycle with registration number JEG 562 UQ was also seized along with the items.” He said.
The customs controller said the handing over of the items to the DSS by the customs was done in the spirit of interagency collaboration and for continued investigation.
“These are dangerous items, we cannot continue to keep them here. We need to hand them over to the appropriate agency.
While receiving the explosive items from the customs controller on behalf of the State Director of DSS, deputy director of DSS, Anthony Oduwalu commended the customs and pledged that the interagency collaboration would be sustained.
