Edo govt kicks off 2023 Alaghodaro summit

The 2023 Alaghodaro Summit, organised by the Edo State Government, kicked off on Wednesday in Benin City, Edo State Capital 6, with the Edo Women Conference.

This was disclosed by Mr Aseun Ighodalo, the Chairman of the Alaghodaro Board, Asue Ighodalo, who addressed a press conference to announce the commencement of the 7th edition of the Summit organised yearly by the Edo State Government, in partnership with the private sector, to mark the anniversary of Governor Godwin Obaseki in office.

Speaking at the press conference, Ighodalo said that the summit was organised to showcase the progress recorded in transforming the state into an investment haven by the Obaseki administration.

He added that the Alaghodaro Summit was a platform used to interact with business people to exchange ideas that could move the state forward.

“This is the seventh edition of the summit, and it is taking place in Benin between November 8 and 12, with the theme, ‘The Edo Story: Creating Shared Opportunities into the Future’.

“Activities lined up to make this year’s Alaghodaro Summit will begin today (Wednesday) with a women’s conference, tour, and cocktail on Thursday, November 9.

“While the main Alaghodaro Summit, Muslim Prayers, State Award and Dinner are scheduled for Friday, November 10,

“On Saturday, November 11, there will be the Governor’s Golf Tournament, food fair, and youth concert, which will climax with a Thanksgiving service on Sunday, November 12”, Ighodalo announced.

He assured of a memorable outing at this year’s summit, adding that guests would be taken around the city to showcase the achievements of the governor in the last seven years.

Besides, Ighodalo disclosed that past governors of the state would be recognised and given awards for their contributions to the development of the state, just as he said the programme would feature a food fair, dinner, the commissioning of Victor Uwaifo Entertainment Hub with one of the best studios in the country, as well as a music carnival.

“Some of the tourists will tour the Palace of the Oba of Benin; they will experience how life is in Edo. They will visit the observer, where the first copy of the paper will be handed out tomorrow,”, he added.

While fielding questions from journalists at the end of the conference, Ighodalo said that the lack of continuity in government policies had led to the underdevelopment of most states in the country.

He noted that different governments came up with different programmes without considering what could be improved upon.

Ighodalo lamented that the problem has become more pronounced since 1999 as politicians have done away with the policies of their predecessors.

“For countries to develop, there must be consistency of policy and implementation, Ighodalo stressed, pointing out that the only way to maintain the current momentum of development in the state is for the incoming government to ensure the continuity of the Alaghodaro programme.

The Alaghodaro Board Chairman assured that Governor Obaseki was committed to fulfilling his campaign promise of rebuilding several burned markets in the state before the end of his administration.
