Edo guber: Dennis Idahosa slams PDP campaign spokesman with N2bn libel suit

The Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC), deputy governorship candidate for the September 21, 2024 governorship election, Mr Dennis Idahosa, has sued the spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship campaign council, Olu Martins for N2 billion for libel.

Idahosa, who is the current member representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said that the N2 billion is for “general, punitive, aggravated and exemplary damages against the defendant”, whom he accused of making some libelous statements against him.

In addition, the APC deputy governorship candidate, in a Writ of Summons, dated May 3, 2024, is also asking for the sum of N15 million only, being the cost of the action.

In the seven-point demand of the claimant against the defendant, Idahosa also demanded a perpetual restraining order against the defendant and his agents from further writing, printing publishing online or causing to be written, printed or published online the same article or similar words that tend to defame him.

This was just as he asked for “An order directing the defendant to cause the withdrawal and removal of the article authored by him from the various social media outlets.”

In the writ from the West-Idahosa SAN & Co law firm, the claimant also demanded the retraction of the said article and a public apology acceptable by him to be published in the same media outlets he (defendant) used.

Martins had written an article which tended to portray the claimant as a fraudster.

The writ of summons had given the defendant 14 days to appear in court or as the court may decide.

The case with the suit number CS/2259/24, was lodged at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in the Abuja Judicial Division.
