EFCC to arraign Emefiele for allegedly printing N684.5m notes with N18.9bn

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, for allegedly printing N684.5 million worth of notes with N18.96 billion.

In the fresh four-count charge filed against him on Tuesday, 23rd April 2024,  the EFCC alleges that Emefiele violated the law with the intent to cause harm to the public during his execution of the naira swap policy under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Additionally, the anti-graft agency accused Emefiele of unlawfully authorizing the withdrawal of N124.8 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation.

Emefiele is scheduled to appear before Justice Maryann Anenih of the FCT High Court in Abuja on April 30 to face these charges.

Recall that on Monday, April 8, 2024, the EFCC presented charges against the former banker, alongside Henry Omoile, before Justice R.A. Oshodi of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, concerning an alleged fraud totaling $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.
