Ellu community receives food bank as monarch, others laud initiative

A food bank has been opened in Ellu community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry or wakes up without food, especially now that Nigerians are facing economic hardship.

According to the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Vision One Billion Souls Foundation, Dr Favour Martins Nakey,  the vision behind the Ellu food bank was not conceived in isolation but stemmed from a deep-rooted desire to honour the legacy of hardwork, kindness and resilience that define the community, adding that Ellu men are hardworking people.

At the opening ceremony, the founder said the foundation’s goal was to extend the initiative to every corner of Isoko nation, transcending barriers of politics, religion or region.

“The foundation is striving to serve the underprivileged better, protect, provide, defend, secure and advocate spiritual and material needs and rights for the downtrodden children in Africa and other parts of the world,” he said.

Nakey said the foundation had been actively serving as duly recognised non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Africa and some parts of the United States of America.

He called on the government at all levels, philanthropists and well-to-do individuals in Nigeria and abroad to join hands with the foundation to realise the dream of making the world a better place

He recalled the efforts made to provide palliative materials to over 500 widows in Ubulu-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state during the COVID-19 lockdown, taking poor children off the streets and sending them to schools as well as medical outreach and lots more, which reflected the foundation’s commitment to making a tangible difference in people’s lives.

He said the testimonies of gratitude from the widows of Ubulu-Uku and others who received support from the foundation, their resilience and faith fueled the foundation’s determination to do more and reach further, hence the Ellu food bank.
