Barcelona manager, Xavi Hernandez, has insisted that Frenkie De Jong remains an important part of his plans.
Xavi was reacting to speculation linking De Jong with a summer transfer to Manchester United.
Interest in the Dutch midfielder from United’s end has ramped up since confirmation of Erik ten Hag’s imminent arrival at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag was De Jong’s former boss at Ajax and it is understood the 52-year-old wants to be reunited with the player.
But Xavi told reporters: “I have said many times that Frenkie is very important. He’s a key player.”
