Ex-gov Amosun empowers 150 Owu indigenes, health facilities, communities

No fewer than 150 indigenes of Owu, Abeokuta, were empowered by the former governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, for self-sustainability.

The empowerment programme was in collaboration with the Owu Empowerment Foundation, an initiative driven towards poverty reduction and the promotion of social cohesion.

Health facilities and communities within the Owu Kingdom of Abeokuta also received assistance from the former governor during the presentation ceremony held at the Olowu of Owu’s Palace, Abeokuta, on Thursday.

Items distributed among students, women, artisans, communities, and health facilities were laptops, grinding machines, deep freezers, generators, hair dryers, and sewing machines.

The former governor, who was represented by the head of his media team, Alhaji Bola Adeyemi, described the gesture as a continuous effort to uplift the needy in society.

Amosun urged the beneficiaries to make good use of any of the items received while promising his continuous commitment to helping people, the community in particular, and the state in general.

In his remarks, the Olowu of Owu, Abeokuta, Oba Professor Saka Matemilola, thanked Amosun for the initiative by making life more beautiful for his kinsmen and communities in his domain.

The monarch said, “If you use it well, it will encourage people to come and donate as well. But if you don’t use it well, it might discourage other people who are willing to empower people through the Foundation, and it will affect others who were supposed to benefit in the future.”

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, OEF, Dr Banji Oyegbami, expressed gratitude to Senator Amosun for his exemplary gesture, urging other influential individuals in Owu Kingdom to contribute to the empowerment efforts.

He said, “Today’s empowerment is being single-handedly sponsored by Senator Ibikunle Amosun; we thank you from the depths of our hearts for this kind gesture.

“This act of SIA is exemplary and worthy of emulation by all. It’s a challenge for highly-placed and blessed Owu sons and daughters to identify with or partner with OEF to empower our people.”.
