Ex-Rep Commends Sacrifices of Nigerians, Urges Tinubu to Ameliorate Suffering

Dr. Farah Dagogo urged President Tinubu to implement effective economic policies to alleviate severe hardships faced by Nigerians
He criticized the government’s rhetoric, stressing the urgent need for tangible improvements to address citizens’ economic challenges

Former House of Representatives member Dr. Farah Dagogo has called on President Bola Tinubu to implement effective economic policies to alleviate the severe hardships many Nigerians face. He described the living conditions in the country as “grim” and expressed concerns that the situation could worsen.
In a special Eid-ul-Adha (Sallah) message to Muslims, Dr. Dagogo, who represented the Bonny/Degema federal constituency, questioned why Nigerians continue to suffer in a nation with abundant resources.
“Today, yesterday, and especially over the past year, the purchasing power of the people has drastically reduced. The level of hyperinflation we’re experiencing is unprecedented in our history, not even during the civil war,” he stated.
Dr. Dagogo highlighted the drastic devaluation of the Naira, noting that the value of ₦40,000 in 2015 is now equivalent to over ₦500,000 in 2024. He pointed out that the costs of goods and services have skyrocketed while real income has not increased, making life increasingly difficult for Nigerians.
“The money that could comfortably buy over 10 bags of 50kg rice in 2015 can now only purchase one bag. Yet, there has been no improvement in the people’s real income. This cannot continue; something must change to alleviate these sufferings,” he lamented.
Reflecting on the central message of Eid-ul-Adha, which emphasizes sacrifice, Dr. Dagogo commended Nigerians for their resilience during these trying times, particularly over the past year. He challenged the government to live up to its promises and take concrete actions to restore hope and improve living conditions.

“The government’s promises and policies are currently mere rhetoric without any tangible positive impact on most Nigerians. This administration must fulfil its pledge of renewing hope for the citizens. The so-called ‘renewed hope’ should translate into real improvements, not increased hardship and suffering,” he added.
Dr. Dagogo’s message underscores the urgent need for effective economic reforms and a government commitment to genuinely address the challenges facing Nigerians.
