Family members of 13 fishermen from Taraba State allegedly murdered by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in Anambra State, have urged security agencies to apprehend those behind the killings.
The families who also expressed concern at the alleged inability of both the Taraba and the federal governments to wade into the matter, said both governments have not deemed it necessary to visit any of the family members since the incident occurred about three weeks ago.
The fishermen who originated from Ibbi LGA Taraba, were reportedly abducted and killed while travelling to Anambra State.
The family members who reached out to journalists on Tuesday, expressed frustration at the silence of the government.
Led by Adamu Jalo, they lamented that no letters of consolation have been written to any of the families by either the state or the federal governments.
“No delegations or letters of condolence have been sent, and there has been no support extended to the families,” he lamented.
Jalo, who also observed that the widows and orphans left behind by the victims are suffering in silence, said apart from the failure of the government to commiserate with them, they have as well failed to make available to the family members, relief materials to cushion the negative effect of the incident.
Noting that the fishermen who were earlier confirmed killed were four in number, he said their inability to confirm the whereabouts of the remaining nine had made them to assume that they have all been killed.
“The murder of the thirteen fishermen by IPOB has left their families in despair. The 24-seater Hummer bus they travelled in and their belongings remain untraceable, and the Anambra State government and police have remained silent.”
