Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has donated a house worth seven million Naira to the family of late Mohammed Ali who was accidentally crushed by a mine-resistant vehicle belonging to the Nigerian Army in Damaturu last August.
Presenting the cash support and the documents of the house to the children on behalf of Governor Buni, through the Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu Hashimi II, Ibn Umar Al-Amin El-Kanemi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Ustaz Baba Gana Kyari sympathized with the family and prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
Kyari urged the widow to take heart, noting that the cash and other supports were not given as rebate for losing their breadwinner, but a solace to lessen their hardship, especially caused by the removal of petroleum subsidy in Nigeria.
Governor Buni also pledged to sponsor the education of late Isa’s children and the feeding of his pregnant wife.
In his remarks after presenting the donation to the children, the Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Dr. Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar Al-Amin El-Kanemi, said every living soul is destined to die.
The Royal Father appreciated Governor Mai Mala Buni for the gesture and prayed for the repose of the departed soul.
The brief presentation ceremony which took place at the Palace of the Emir of Damaturu, was attended by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdul-Salam (Rtd), the Commanding Officer 233 Battalion, Lt. Col. G. Abdul, among others.
The deceased was survived by his pregnant wife, four children and a stepmother.
The sad development had generated reactions on social media with Damaturu residents calling for proper investigation and compensation for the victim’s family.
Residents attributed the accident to alleged reckless driving and violation of traffic rules by the soldiers.
