Fire guts ex-Kano gov Shekarau’s house

A fire incident occurred on Sunday evening, burning down part of the multi-million-naira building belonging to former Kano State governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau in Kano.

The inferno primarily affected the apartment of his third wife, Halima Shekarau.

The fire, suspected to have originated in the kitchen of the house, could not be immediately ascertained as to its cause.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, Dr Sule Ya’u Sule, the media adviser to Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, stated that the fire started on Sunday evening in the inner kitchen of the house, situated on the ground floor of the mansion.

“We thank God the fire only affected one of Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau’s living rooms, and already men of the State Fire Service had successfully put out the fire,” he said.

The spokesperson of the State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed the incident when contacted.

However, he disclosed that he would not comment on the cause of the fire for now, as they are still managing the situation.

“We are still at the house, and you know I cannot comment on anything now because we are still trying to make sure that the fire didn’t spread to other places,” he added.
