FOMWAN seeks stakeholders’ partnership for effective PHC service delivery in Niger

Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Niger State Chapter, has called for stakeholders’ partnership in addressing the challenges confronting effective and efficient Primary Healthcare Service (PHC) delivery in the state.

The State Ameera of FOMWAN, Hauwa Kulu Abdullahi, made the call in an interview during a three-day consultative inception meeting for a collaborative project held in Minna, just as she decried the low level of women’s involvement in the Ward Development Committee and thereby called for positive reversal of such sideline.

She emphasised that the initiative is to establish commitment and cooperation among projects and key stakeholders in Niger State Primary Health Care (PHC), highlighting that it’s a development partnership with International Budget Partners (IBP) in six local government areas including Bida, Gbako, Chanchaga, Paikoro, Wushishi and Kontagora.

Ameera Kulu Abdullahi noted that the federation carried out the Base Assessment Programme this year through enumerators in some selected PHC Service centres to ascertain the services, challenges, and prospects to find areas of intervention.

She stressed that the aim is for all stakeholders to join their findings to be forwarded to relevant authorities for appropriate action like personnel deficit, and lack of toilet facilities among others, to curb the high rate of maternal mortality in the state.

The Niger State Commissioner, Ministry of Primary Healthcare Service, Dr Ibrahim Dangana, represented by a Director from the Ministry, Dr Hauwa Kolo, assured the government is committed to providing affordable and accessible basic healthcare services in the state.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensure effective and efficient service delivery in all the 25 local government areas in the state by the provision of all the deficits to enhance the success of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s mission in the health sector.
