Heatwave: Avoid working under direct sunlight, expert tells Jigawa residents

A health professional, Dr Shehu Sambo has warned the general public in Jigawa and Northern part of the country to avoid working and going around under direct sunlight.

The medical expert made the warning in a statement posted on his Facebook wall over the health implications of the current excessive heat of weather in Jigawa and some northern states.

The medical professional, who is also the director Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA) in Jigawa State Ministry of Health said; “Northern Nigeria is passing through a severe heat wave not experienced in a long time”. 

According to him; “The situation carries a lot of health implications such as heat stroke, severe dehydration and Kidney problems like stones, infections”.

Dr Shehu Sambo added that other implementations include; “Predisposition to the spread of some infections like meningitis and so many other health-related issues”.

The director Primary Healthcare Development Agency advises people to take a lot of water/fluids and maintain and sleep in well-ventilated rooms environment. 

He disclosed further; “Don’t go out/work under direct sunlight unless necessary especially around noon to 4 pm. Visit any health centre when feeling unwell”.
