Home Remedies that work

While many believe that most home remedies are myths put together by housewives, scientific research has proved that many of these home remedies are beneficial to the health. But in spite of the effectiveness in bringing relief, experts’ advice that you consult medical practitioners for advice before trying any home remedy especially if you are on prescription drugs to ensure there is no negative effect of drug interaction.

However, even when there are no researches, some home remedies have proved effective and harmless in giving relief to minor health discomforts.

Peppermint: Peppermint oil helps with irritable bowel syndrome; cramps, bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation. It may be good for headaches too..

Honey: This natural sweetener gives relief from cough like any over-the-counter medicine. It can also help with allergies.

Turmeric: This spice gives relief and is beneficial in a variety of conditions ranging from arthritis to fatty liver and research has proved it to be effective for this purpose. However, there are other claims that it helps in healing ulcers, skin rashes after radiation but this has no scientific proof.  It should be noted that high doses can cause digestive problems.

Green Tea: This is a great source of powerful antioxidants that can protect your cells from damage and help you fight disease. It may also lower your odds of heart disease and certain kinds of cancers, like skin, breast, lung and colon.

Garlic: According to research, people who eat more garlic are less likely to get certain types of cancer and it also may lower blood cholesterol and blood pressure levels.

Ginger: Good in treatment of stomachaches, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. There’s some evidence that it might help with menstrual cramps too. But it’s not necessarily good for everyone. Some people get tummy trouble, heartburn, diarrhea, and gas because of it and it may affect how some medications work.

Sex: It is said that sex can help ease pain when you have certain kinds of headaches; especially migraines. It’s also been shown to improve heart health, ease stress, and boost mental alertness.

Cinnamon: This helps to control blood sugar for people who have pre-diabetes or diabetes.

Hot Bath: This gives relief in all kinds of issues that affect the muscles, bones and tendons especially for ailments like arthritis, back pain and joint pain because it helps blood flow to areas that need it but it shouldn’t be too hot.

Ice Pack: In cases of injury that involves pain and swelling, especially after physical activity, ice pack is a good source of relief.

Petroleum jelly: This helps to keep skin moisture and prevent chafing. It can also help protect your baby’s skin from diaper rash.
