Immunisation: Bogoro LG chairman tasks health workers on sensitisation of rural women

Caretaker chairman of Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Markus Bitrus Lusa, has tasked health workers in the area to sensitise rural women on the importance of childbirth, particularly attending antenatal activities.

The council chairman made the call on Saturday when he flagged off the immunisation campaign for the month of April.

Lusa noted with dismay, the poor turnout for antenatal services recorded in all the health facilities by pregnant women in the local government area, saying it is a dangerous trend that must be addressed.

The local government chairman assured the people that his administration will not relent towards protecting the lives of mothers and children under five years for growth and development of the area.

“I want to inform you that I am not happy to note that there is a record of low birthrate among our women. Let us know that the population of our community depends on the high rate of birthrate.

“If we decide not to give birth to children, with time, our population will decrease and this will also lead to closure of some primary schools in our local government area.

“It is based on this that I want to use this opportunity to do the needful. I also assure you that my administration will not relent to protect mothers and children from killer diseases, “ Lusa said.

Earlier, the Director, Primary Healthcare in the council, Mr Godwin Hakuri, revealed the determination of the department towards combating poliomyelitis and other killer diseases of children.

Hakuri warned members of the public against the outbreak of measles, just as he appealed to parents to immunise their children.

While appreciating the council chairman, in a release signed by the council’s Information Officer, Gomna James, the village head of Bogoro, Mr Nuhu Tafida and the Supervisory Councillor for Primary Healthcare, Honourable (Mrs) Tamar Idi, charged women to prioritise immunisation and antenatal services in the interest of their health.
