Inadequate financing, insufficient gas supply responsible for energy deficit – Minister

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has identified some factors responsible for the energy deficit across the country to inadequate financing and insufficient gas supply.

The minister made the observation on Tuesday in his opening address at the power sector stakeholders’ interactive dialogue organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Power in Abuja.

Adelabu assured Nigerians of the determination of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to address the challenges and make Nigeria a suitable place for business, but lamented the current state of power supply across the country.

According to him, “No sector can function optimally without the power sector. Over the years, poor financing, and inadequate gas supply have been responsible for the energy deficit we have in the country. But a lot of work is going on to address these challenges.”

The event is being attended by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Chairman, Senate Committee on Power, Enyinnaya Abaribe; his House of Representatives counterpart, Victor Nwokolo and the Group Managing Director of the Sahara Power Group, Mr Kola Adesina, among others.
