The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has condemned the killings of three traditional rulers in Ekiti and Kwara states, vowing that the organisation would do everything possible to secure the south-west region.
OPC gave this stand on Monday in a signed statement by its publicity secretary, Barrister Yinka Oguntimehin, in reaction to the gruesome murder of the Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola, the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola, and the Olukoro of Koro-Ekiti in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, Oba Olusegun Aremu Cole, whose wife had been in prison for the past five days.
This was just as the foremost Yoruba socio-cultural organisation also charged the Federal Government to fish out the killers of the three traditional rulers and bring them to book.
Oguntimehin, while condemning the acts, said it was sad that the monarchs died in such a situation, vowing that the OPC would not fold its arms and leave unknown gunmen to spill the blood of innocent people in such a dastardly act.
“We have indicated our resolve to assist the government of the South-West region in addressing the surge of killings in Yoruba land.
“OPC will not allow the South-West to be used as an abattoir where innocent people will be slaughtered and gunmen will live like kings in our region. It is unacceptable. We will resist any attempt by gunmen to turn Yoruba land into a den of killers,”‘ he said.
Speaking further, the OPC chieftain noted sadly that though the students and teachers of Apostolic Faith Nursery and Primary School in Emure-Ekiti, who were abducted in Ekiti State, had regained their freedom after paying ransom to their abductors, while the driver was killed in the process, it was unfortunate now that reports of killings and kidnappings were spreading across the South-West.
He appealed to the federal and state governments to cooperate with the OPC in their attempt to solve the security challenges in the country, saying that the group was ready to salvage the region from marauders and killers that had infiltrated it.

“We are ready to salvage the region from marauders and killers that have infiltrated our region. Those behind the killings of the three traditional rulers would not go unpunished,” Oguntimehin vowed.
