It’s unbearable – Shari’ah council blasts Tinubu over economic hardship in Nigeria

The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria has tackled President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the persistent economic hardship Nigerians are grappling with.

Sheikh AbdurRasheed Hadiyatullah, the President of the Council, disclosed this at a Conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to him, the suffering of Nigerians has heightened under Tinubu with the rising cost of food, goods and services nationwide.

“The suffering of Nigerians has escalated since President Tinubu assumed office.

“What used to cost N200 is now being sold at N2,000. Nigeria’s current state is marked by cash scarcity, unemployment, and economic challenges,” he said.

DAILY POST reports that headline and food inflation increased to 28.92 per cent and 33.93 per cent, respectively, in December 2023, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

Meanwhile, a financial expert, Okechukwu Unegbe, former president of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, had told DAILY POST that the country’s true inflation rate exceeds 40 per cent.

This comes months after fuel subsidy removal and the floating Naira in June 2023.
