Kano: Gov Yusuf Releases N66 Billion For Payment Of Pension, Gratuity

The governor said this on Saturday while flagging off the payment of N6bn gratuity and death benefits of over 5,000 pensioners in the state.
Abba Yusuf blamed the immediate past administration for being insensitive to the plight of retirees in the state.

Kano Governor Abba Yusuf described how an unnamed retired civil servant died after bribing a state government official in order to get his claim fulfilled.
Gov Yusuf alleged that the pensioner, who was in desperate need of funds for his daughter’s wedding, was asked by officials to sacrifice one-third of his gratuity in order for it to be paid on time.
“Because of his financial inability, the pensioner had his daughter’s wedding postponed unnecessarily.”
“During the previous administration, he sought retirement benefits, but they demanded that he pay one-third of his gratuity.”
“He struggled and provided the amount but still, he was denied his right. That is how he got a heart attack and died. Today we paid his heirs his entitlements,” the governor said.
