Lagos: US-Based Nigerian Oil & Gas Tycoon Found Dead in Ikoyi Hotel Room

One Onyejekwe Izuchukwu, a 62-year-old renowned Nigerian businessman based in the United States, has died.

It’s gathered that the lifeless body of Izuchukwu, described as an oil and gas magnate, was in his hotel room in the affluent neighborhood of Ikoyi, Lagos.
According to reports, he had traveled to Nigeria for business meetings and had taken a brief rest in his hotel room before his untimely demise.
He had started lodging at the hotel three days earlier on june 6 before his dead body was found in his room by a cleaner working at the hotel.
A doctor, who was said to have been called in to ascertain his existential status, confirmed him dead.
Sources familiar with the development disclosed that Izuchukwu was in the country to oversee operations at an oil and gas company he had acquired four years ago.
Plans were said to be in motion for him to relocate permanently to Nigeria to personally manage the affairs of the company, following concerns about alleged mismanagement under the current leadership.
His wife and a family friend are currently en route to Lagos to repatriate his remains to Houston for burial arrangements.
Until Izuchukwu’s death, an online platform, okay.ng, hinted that he had served as the President of Bits and Drilling Tools, a division of Schlumberger, where he led the development of innovative drilling technologies designed to reduce costs and improve efficiency in the oil and gas industry.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the businessman death.

He said the command had commenced an investigation into the case.
He said, “Izuchukwu was found lifeless on the floor of the hotel room. A doctor confirmed him dead and his (Izuchukwu) corpse has been deposited in a morgue in Ikeja for autopsy. The command has commenced an investigation into the case.”
