McPherson appoints Omotoso as deputy librarian

McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has appointed Dr Abiola Omotoso as its deputy librarian.

According to a letter signed by the Deputy Registrar of Information and Public Relations, Sanmi Enigbokan, Dr Omotoso’s appointment, which took effect from November 16, 2023, was approved by the University Governing Council upon the recommendation of the vice chancellor and the university appointments and promotions committee.

The vice chancellor of the university, Professor Francis Igbasan, on behalf of the university community, wished Dr Omotoso the best in her new appointment.

The letter also stated that, as the deputy university librarian, Dr Omotoso is saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the day-to-day activities of the university library, especially in the management of the library staff and services.

“She is also responsible for planning, monitoring, and supervising as well as teaching as the case may be,” the letter stated.

Dr Omotoso holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mass Communication from the Polytechnic Ibadan, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Philosophy from the University of Ibadan, a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), and a PhD in Library and Information Science.

She was employed as a graduate assistant in the Department of Library, Archival and Information Science on 2010 at the University of Ibadan, before she moved to the Voice of Nigeria (VON) as a Librarian and later served as Deputy Head, Library Unit under the Directorate of Programmes at VON between 2011 and 2012.

Dr Omotoso, a chartered librarian and knowledge management specialist, joined the services of McPherson University as one of its pioneer staff in 2012.
