Senator John Owan Enoh, Minister of Sports Development, has declared Team Nigeria’s ambition to surpass its historic performance at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta by aiming for gold medals at the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Nigeria achieved remarkable success during the Atlanta ’96 Olympics, securing two gold, one silver, and three bronze medals. With three gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze medals in 18 Olympic appearances since 1952, the Minister believes it’s time for Nigeria to elevate its performance on the global stage.
In a statement signed by his Media Aide, Diana-Mary Nsan, the Minister expressed the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to supporting Team Nigeria in achieving outstanding success in Paris.
The Ministry has established a ministerial podium performance committee tasked with strategic planning and execution to ensure Nigeria’s competitiveness in various sports.
Senator Enoh highlighted the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, including the Ministry, National Olympic Committee (NOC), and federations, and emphasized the collective effort required to excel at the Olympics.
The Minister underscored the Ministry’s efforts to enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness and representation on the global stage, aiming for a minimum of one gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
With the Games scheduled to occur between July 26 and August 11, 2024, in Paris, France, Team Nigeria is gearing up to make its mark and bring glory to the nation.
