NOLLYWOOD actress Aisha Lawal, has opened up about her journey to staying relevant in the ever-evolving world of Nigerian cinema. In an exclusive interview with R, Lawal shed light on the keys to her continued success, particularly her knack for securing prominent roles in blockbuster projects.

Reflecting on her transition to television series, Lawal expressed, “It’s a continuous thing for me. But the series on its own, for me, it’s an experience that you don’t want to miss.” She emphasized the enriching experience of exploring new creative avenues within the medium, saying, “It’s a learning process, and coming on this series has actually made me see another side of traditional movie entirely.”

When asked about her enduring presence in the industry, Lawal attributed it to her unwavering commitment to the craft of acting. She noted, “It’s because of the commitment. Because if not on something that makes people feel you can do the new one that would showcase you to the world, they won’t call you.”

Moreover, Lawal underscored the role of established directors like Kunle Afolayan in shaping her career trajectory. Drawing on her experience working with Afolayan on past projects including Anikulapo: Return of the Spectre, Lawal highlighted the director’s discerning eye for talent and commitment to merit-based casting.

She said, “Kunle Afolayan does movies that cross borders. So you have new people falling more in love with you, getting to know you more, and that’s because they trust what you’ve done in the past.”

Lawal also dwelled on the recognition she receives from movie producers for her unique contributions to the industry. “Movie producers know what I bring to the game and why it has to be me who would take the roles I have been taking,” she asserted confidently, underlining her indispensability in the selection process.

In addition to her commitment to acting, Lawal noted the importance of adaptability and openness to new opportunities. She remarked, “You have to be ready to embrace different roles and challenges. Every project brings something unique, and it’s essential to approach each one with enthusiasm and dedication.”
