Governor Abdullahi Sule identifies people’s resistance to change as a significant challenge in his leadership journey
Reflecting on his corporate background, Sule emphasizes bringing learned principles to benefit society through transparent governance practices
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has identified people’s resistance to change as a formidable obstacle in his leadership journey.
During a gathering with representatives from the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) at the Government House in Lafia, the state capital, Sule drew on social psychologist Douglas McGregor’s theory to highlight the reluctance of many to embrace change.
Reflecting on his experiences in international and national corporations, Governor Sule expressed how they motivated him to pursue public office, aiming to contribute positively to society.
“Having worked with global corporations, I felt compelled to bring back what I’ve learned to benefit our society,” he expressed.
Upon assuming office, Governor Sule prioritized implementing due process, transparency, and accountability, drawing from the structured systems prevalent in the corporate world.
“Incorporating due process and transparency into governance has been my focus since assuming office,” he emphasized.
However, Governor Sule acknowledged encountering resistance from individuals accustomed to traditional practices, particularly those entrenched in the government system.
“I’ve faced pushback from some within my administration who cling to old methods, resistant to change,” he lamented.
He attributed part of the challenge to the state’s limited financial resources, often ranking Nasarawa low in federal allocation standings.
“Despite innovative ideas, our resources are limited, hindering our ability to implement them fully,” Governor Sule disclosed.
Furthermore, he expressed reluctance to borrow, fearing the burden it would place on the state’s finances without corresponding revenue streams.
Governor Sule stressed the importance of inclusive governance in maintaining peace and stability within Nasarawa State.
He affirmed, “Our commitment to inclusive governance has contributed to the relative peace and security in our state.”
Looking ahead, Governor Sule articulated his vision for Nasarawa to emerge as one of Nigeria’s top three competitive states.
Addressing aspiring politicians, he urged them to approach politics with a genuine desire to serve rather than viewing it solely as a means of financial gain.
“Entering politics to serve and make a positive impact is paramount,” Governor Sule advised, emphasizing the importance of aligning actions with a conscience.
