Nasarawa Assembly Summons AEDC over Power Blackout, Outrageous Bills

Igbawase Ukumba in Lafia

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly yesterday summoned the Area Manager of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to appear before it over persistent power blackout and over billing of customers across the state.

The House, therefore, directed the AEDC Area Manager to appear before it on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

Speaker of the House, Hon. Danladi Jatau, gave the summon after Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki (SDP- Lafia Central) raised the issue on Matter of Public Importance during the House proceedings in Lafia.

The speaker said that the House wanted to know why there is epileptic power supply and over billing of customers across the state.

Jatau said: “This is affecting the lives of our people and their businesses negatively across the state, as many people could not afford paying light bill again. Even those that could pay hardly enjoy the electricity.”

He said that the constitution has empowered the House to invite anybody operating in the state for questioning on matters of public importance.

All the Assembly members who contributed on the persistent power blackout and over billing of electricity consumers by AEDC, supported the need for the House to summon the management of AEDC to appear before it for explanation.
