The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced vocational skills training for no fewer than 70 women for employment generation and poverty reduction in Ekiti state.
The Director General of NDE, Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo who spoke during the flag-off of the project in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital said the 70 beneficiaries would be trained on tye and dye, souvenir and cosmetology.
Represented by the state coordinator of NDE, Sanusi Akeem, the DG explained that the scheme was one of the plans of the federal government through the agency to provide job opportunities and reduce poverty in society.
He said the scheme is from the Smale Scale Enterprise(SSE) Department of the agency.

He added that the objectives of the training are to impact the marketable and functional skills on women in line with the gender sensitivity of the agency.
The DG said, “ To actualize its mandate of employment generation and poverty reduction, 70 women have been selected to receive comprehensive training on Tye and Dye, Souvenir and Cosmetology.
“The training will last for five days and the beneficiaries would be exposed to both the theoretical and practical aspects of their chosen skills by the competent trainer which we have carefully chosen.
“The overall objectives include, to empower women with skills that will translate to immediate employment. To reduce their dependency on other people thereby reducing poverty and also to improve the standard of living and the general well-being of the beneficiaries.
“It is important to note that the federal government has not relented in its effort to ensure that job opportunities are provided especially for the teeming unemployed women with the aim of creating jobs, making them self-reliant and reducing poverty in the country.”
He advised the beneficiaries to be committed and dedicated to the five days of intensive training for their chosen skills towards enhancing their income-generating potential.
