NDE trains Ekiti youths on sustainable agric development

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced training for unemployed youths on sustainable agricultural development practices in Ekiti State.

The Director General of NDE, Abubakar Fikpo who spoke during the flag-off of the training in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital explained that the training was in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu to tackle the challenge of unemployment among the population.

Speaking through the state coordinator, Sanusi Akeem, the DG added that the agency was determined to carry out its mandate of building a productive economy by providing opportunities for the youths including in the agriculture sector.

He noted no fewer than 50 beneficiaries have been selected to be part of the training, which he said would ensure more agricultural income for them along the value chains towards reducing poverty in society.

According to him, after the training, the beneficiaries would contribute to the sustained growth in the sector and boost food security in order to fulfil the agenda of the president for the country.

The DG said, “Sustainable agriculture refers to an agricultural production and distribution system that helps to provide more profitable farm income, promote environmental sanctity and enhance the quality of life for farm families and communities.

“This programme is in line with the Presidential priority areas I and II of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which is to reform the economy to deliver sustained inclusive growth and boost agriculture to achieve food security.

“The objectives of the training include: to impart agricultural skills along its value chain to unemployed persons in the country, to create more jobs through agriculture along its value chain ; to increase the livelihood of the people of the rural community; to build more income generating activities through agribusiness and as well to create wealth and reduce poverty among the people of the community.”

He advised the beneficiaries to be committed and concentrated on the training for them to be adequately equipped on how to generate more profits in their agriculture venture.

The DG commended the state government and ” all other stakeholders who have remained steadfast in supporting our mission of ensuring that unemployment and poverty become a thing of the past in Ekiti State and Nigeria at large through job creation.”
