Ningi rerun: APC candidate hails Bauchi Speaker’s sack

Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the rerun election for Ningi Central State Constituency in Bauchi state, Khalid Captain Ningi has hailed the judgement of the Court of Appeal, Abuja which sacked Abubakar Suleiman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking to Journalists in Bauchi on Saturday, he described the judgment as justice served appropriately despite the fact that he had wanted direct declaration of him as winner of the election.

Khalid Captain Ningi however expressed confidence that, “We will win the rerun election, we won it ab initio but the opposition manipulated the results through over voting and use of political thugs to disrupt the collation processes in the affect polling units that are our strongholds.”

The young politician said, “Honestly, I would not have contested against him, he used to be my Boss, I was the Chairman of the Progressives Front that ensured that he was elected as the Speaker of the Assembly when he was in the APC.”

According to him, “He has failed the people of the area, that was the reason the people are yearning for a positive change and effective representation. I am ready to offer such when elected after the rerun.”

He allayed fears of the use of government might during the rerun because according to him, “The people are just waiting for INEC to fix the date so that we can have a representative, for now, we don’t have one.”

Asked if he would go back to the court if he loses again, he said, “As I said earlier, he is my Boss and ordinarily, I will not contest against him. If the process is fair and credible, I will call to congratulate him.”

Recall that the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Friday set aside the judgement of the Assembly Election Petition Tribunal that affirmed the election of Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y Suleiman as member representing Ningi Central and ordered rerun in ten polling units.

The Appeal Court consequently ordered a rerun in 10 polling units of Ningi state Constituency to determine the winner of the election.
