NNPP Leadership Disputes: National Chairman Discredits Shendam’s Statements

NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Major Agbo, refutes Yabuku Shendam’s claim, stating he’s not authorized to speak on behalf of NNPP
Dr. Agbo questions Shendam’s affiliation, emphasizing the NNPP’s commitment to credible leadership in 2027

The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Major Agbo, has clarified that Yabuku Shendam is not the National Publicity Secretary of the party and, therefore, does not have the authority to speak on behalf of the NNPP, especially regarding rumored merger plans with other political parties.
In a statement released on Saturday, Dr. Agbo asserted that Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq remains the NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary. He questioned Shendam’s affiliation with the party, suggesting that he may be a spokesperson for Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s kwankwasiya group rather than an official representative of NNPP.
Dr. Agbo was responding to Shendam’s recent statements regarding the reported call by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP for a merger among opposition parties to challenge the APC in the 2027 elections. Shendam was quoted as saying that NNPP could only accept the proposal if Atiku supported Kwankwaso’s bid for power.
Dr. Agbo clarified that Kwankwaso had been expelled from the party by the NNPP Board of Trustees, and he is no longer a member of the party. He emphasized that Shendam’s statements were aligned with Kwankwaso’s interests, which are no longer reflective of the NNPP’s position.

While expressing openness to propositions that could benefit Nigerians, Dr. Agbo highlighted that any decision regarding alliances or mergers would be made by the NNPP leadership, considering the party’s commitment to delivering credible leadership for Nigeria in 2027.
The NNPP has been grappling with a leadership crisis, with factions loyal to different leaders making conflicting decisions and announcements. Dr. Agbo affirmed the party’s independence and expressed a focus on securing Nigeria’s future through a credible candidate in the upcoming elections.
