PTD urges security agencies to probe, prosecute strike instigators

The leadership of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), a branch of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), has called on security agencies in the country to investigate and prosecute individuals behind the purported strike by the union, which was not in any way on schedule.

Recall that the duo of Gbenga Olawale and Adekunle Rufai, in a statement on Sunday, said petroleum tanker drivers will be embarking on a strike in protest to demand the resignation of NUPENG President Williams Akporeha.

According to a statement by the National Chairman, PTD, Augustine Egbon, made available to journalists on Tuesday, it is imperative for these individuals to face the wrath of the law, stating that their action was capable of causing social and economic unrest.

The statement further held that the duo of Gbenga Olawale and Adekunle Rufai are not bona fide members of the PTD, adding that their names are not on the list of Ibadan depot executives of the PTD and also not on the list of ex-officials of the PTD, as they claimed.

PTD noted that the motive behind the information being circulated was to cause an unfounded and dangerous panic in the supply chain of petroleum products distribution in the country through the spreading of false news.

ex-officials”It is on this note that we call on security agencies to fully investigate and prosecute these panic-creating news items, as the citizens are already going through enough tough times and situations,” the statement read.
