Search giant unwraps Google Startups Accelerator Africa 2024 plan

Google has announced plans for the Google Startups Accelerator Africa 2024 programme designed to foster innovation and drive economic growth across Africa.

Since its establishment in 2018, the search giant said that the programme has played a pivotal role in aiding 106 startups from 17 African nations. Together, these startups have raised over $263 million and generated more than 2,800 direct employment opportunities. Notably, in the 2023 cohort, three Nigerian startups—Famasi Africa, Izifin, and Vzy—stood out among the 11 selected across the continent, underscoring the growth of Nigeria’s entrepreneurial landscape.

What is Google Startups Accelerator Africa?

Notably, in the 2023 cohort, three Nigerian startups—Famasi Africa, Izifin, and Vzy—stood out among the 11 selected across the continent, underscoring the growth of Nigeria’s entrepreneurial landscape.

Startups chosen for the 2024 cohort will undergo an intensive accelerator programme from June to September 2024. They will benefit from an equity-free $350,000 allocation in Google Cloud credits, personalized guidance from Google AI experts and seasoned entrepreneurs, and in-depth training on AI/ML development, product strategy, and scaling.

“We’re excited to support the next generation of African AI pioneers through the Google for Startups Accelerator, providing them with the resources and mentorship they need to build successful, impactful businesses. Africa’s tech ecosystem is a hotbed of innovation, and AI has the potential to be a transformative force across various sectors,” Folarin Aiyegbusi, Head of Startups Ecosystem for Africa at Google said in a company statement.

Additionally, participants will gain access to a global network of investors, partners, and customers, as well as a supportive community of fellow founders.

Applications for the 2024 cohort of the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa programme are now open via the website. Seed to Series A tech startups building innovative solutions for Africa are invited to apply. Entrepreneurs are encouraged to seize this opportunity to accelerate their growth and shape the future of technology in Africa.
