Security management in Nigeria requires all hands on deck – UNICAL VC

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, UniCal), Prof. Florence Obi has said to contain the current heightened insecurity in parts of the country, all hands must be on deck.

She spoke during a Peace And Security summit organized by the Institute for Universal Harmony, TIFUH, in collaboration with the Cross River State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN.

Obi said the summit was timely and crucial as it was coming at a time when Cross River State was working towards stamping out the menace of crime.

Represented by the Dean of Environmental Science and Chairman, Committee of Deans, Prof. Anim Ajake, the VC said everyone’s collective commitment is needed to foster peace

She underscored the need to harness the power of dialogue and collaboration in the fight against crime, saying security issues should not be treated with kid gloves as it is key to national development,

She added that her administration will always place a high premium on security.

Also speaking, the President of TIFUH, Dr Charles Bassey said there was a need by security agencies to adopt new strategies in their bid to surmount security challenges ravaging the country.

According to him, the consequences of cultism, gangsterism, kidnapping, human trafficking and communal wars have left society in dire straits.

“There’s a dire need for security experts to be alive to their responsibilities to stem the tide of insecurity in Nigeria.

“It is also pertinent for the society to get involved in becoming advocates of Peace. Peace should be everyone’s concern”.
