Segun Showunmi aims to overhaul the PDP if elected national chairman, emphasizing reform and innovative strategies for resurgence
Showunmi proposes eliminating governors’ blanket immunity to enable the prosecution of those accountable for public safety failures

Segun Showunmi, a former gubernatorial aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has articulated his intentions to overhaul and revitalize the party if entrusted with the position of national chairman.
During an interactive session organized by the Consolidated Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ogun Council, held in Abeokuta over the weekend, Showunmi emphasized the need to recalibrate and reform the PDP.
Expressing his aspirations ahead of the party’s convention in August, Showunmi underscored his commitment to implementing innovative strategies to facilitate the PDP’s resurgence to power in future elections.
In addition to his plans for party reform, Showunmi advocated for the elimination of governors’ “blanket immunity” from the constitution. He proposed this measure to facilitate the establishment of effective state police nationwide.

Highlighting the government’s paramount responsibility in safeguarding lives and property, Showunmi stressed the necessity of holding governors accountable for any failure to ensure public safety. He suggested the removal of immunity for murder charges, thereby enabling the prosecution of governors responsible for unlawful killings.
Showunmi’s proposals aim to address concerns regarding state authorities’ potential misuse of power while promoting accountability and transparency within governance structures.
