Strike: NLC, TUC to ground activities nationwide from October 3

The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have agreed to embark on a nationwide strike over the failure of the Federal Government to implement its policies.

NLC and TUC agreed to ground activities nationwide, effective October 3, 2023.

Joe Ajaero, the NLC National President, disclosed this during a virtual National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday.

Ajaero faulted the federal government’s inability to alleviate the suffering Nigerians are witnessing due to fuel subsidy removal.

The NLC president said the union resolved to work together to make their stance known to the government.

This is coming when the President of TUC, Festus Osifo said the union was tired of the Federal Government’s promises to meet its demands.

TUC had demanded wage awards for civil servants to cushion the hardship caused by the fuel subsidy removal, tax exemption for some categories of workers, as well as setting up structures for the effective implementation of the palliatives from the federal government.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, had previously assured Nigerian workers that the government would soon conclude the issue of wage awards.
