Taraba govt to distribute first set of tractor units to farmers

Taraba state government on Friday said it has concluded plans to distribute the first batch of tractor units to farmers in the state.

Prof. Nicholas Namessan, the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, disclosed this to journalists while inspecting the assembling of 20 Cabrio and 250 units of mini tractors in Jalingo.

According to the Commissioner, Governor Agbu Kefas has developed a template on how the tractors would be shared with farmers across the 16 local governments at a subsidised rate. Just as he also disclosed that 60 home base engineers have been trained by the Ghanaian engineers to assemble, maintain, operate and as well train farmers on how to operate and maintain the tractors.

“The first batch of 100 Cabrio and 750 units of mini tractors is now set to be distributed to Taraba farmers. May 28.2024, as promised by Governor Agbu Kefas.

“We have received so far, 20 Cabrio and 250 mini high power tractors which will be distributed to our farmers on May 28, 2024. The government has already developed a template through the farmers’ registration. The preliminary assessment of the registration at various local governments is what we are going to use in distributing the tractors.

“I wish to disclose here that Governor Agbu Kefas has also perfected plans to subsidize the prices of fertilizer and herbicides for farmers to ensure that every farmer in the state does not encounter challenges in their efforts to ensure food production in Taraba.

“I want to assure that the tractors would be given directly to genuine farmers to achieve the government’s desire of ending hunger in Taraba,” the commissioner disclosed.
